In order to effectively meet the needs of the whole child and family, The Family School has a long history of partnerships and collaborations with community agencies and organizations. Our current partnerships and collaborations include:
HandsOn Greater Phoenix
One Saturday morning a month we have a Hands on Phoenix work day at Family School. Volunteers help keep our playground sand soft, sort clothing in the exchange room, clean whatever we ask them to, paint, do landscape work, nd help with preparation of classroom projects. You too can become a HandsOn Phoenix volunteer – click here – parents who become Hands-On volunteers at TFS can count these hours toward the annual required volunteer hours.
Phoenix Children’s Hospital
Pediatric interns from PCH come to The Family School to do a morning of observation followed by discussion with staff about child development. Parents are asked to sign releases so the interns may ask questions about the children they observe.
Arizona Literacy and Learning
Arizona Literacy and Learning provides developmental screening for all of our three, four and five year old students. This screening helps to identify potential challenges to future success and includes screening of speech and language skills, vision, hearing, gross and fine motor skills, self-help skills, academic readiness skills and social-emotional development.
Arizona State University and Argosy University
Each year three to four social work students from ASU and Argosy do their internships at The Family School. They typically spend two full days a week at school. They work with children individually and in groups in the classroom. They meet with parents to discuss family goals and plan for needed resources. They write behavior plans and conduct supervised play therapy sessions. They participate in the Second Step program, family events, Earthsavers, parent education and transition testing and planning.
